Always follow the firework safety code

Fireworks can be fun for all ages, but they must always be safe. Please remember to follow the Firework Code ensuring you, your family and friends will have a wonderful night to remember.

  1. Only buy fireworks marked BS 7114.
  2. Don’t drink alcohol if setting off fireworks.
  3. Keep fireworks in a closed box.
  4. Follow the instructions on each firework.
  5. Light at arm’s length, using a taper.
  6. Stand well back.
  7. Never go near a firework that has been lit. Even if it hasn't gone off, it could still explode.
  8. Never put fireworks in your pocket or throw them.
  9. Always supervise children around fireworks.
  10. Light sparklers one at a time and wear gloves.
  11. Never give sparklers to a child under five.
  12. Keep pets indoors.

Did you know?

  1. Fireworks must not be sold to anyone who is under 18.
  2. Sparklers are not toys and should never be given to a child under five.
  3. It is an offence to let fireworks off between 11pm and 7am, except on Bonfire Night (midnight), Diwali, New Year, and Chinese New Year (1am).
  4. All category 3 fireworks (display fireworks) must not exceed 120 decibels.
  5. It is against the law to carry fireworks in public if you're under 18.
  6. It is against the law to throw or set off fireworks in the street.
  7. It is an offence under the Explosives Act 1875 to tamper with or modify fireworks
